Members of ParkService

The ParkService project consists of a consortium of 7 European organisations as follows:


ParkAid

ParkAid is a start-up company, founded in 2003 in Rome to exploit the results of the PARREHA project. The company is owned by former PARREHA partners

The company is now starting-up the operations, aiming to the validate the market of Parkinson’s patients in Europe.

During ParkService project, ParkAid will manage the market analysis workpackage.


OCC logo
Oxford Computer Consultants

UK IT consultancy specialising in the management and development of bespoke software. OCC managed the PARREHA project over 2000-2003 (IST-1999-12552) whose results ParkAid.exploited.

Established in 1989 and currently has 21 staff members and a turnover of €2.5 M. The business is split into a consultancy group and an R&D team. OCC will be the coordinating partner and will also be responsible for part of the product customisation.

Based in Rome and in Catania, Intelligence for Environment & Security – IES Solutions Srl (IES) is a private SME founded in 2004 by its existing CEO, Dr. Uberto Delprato, shortly joined by Dr. Massimo Cristaldi as Senior Engineer.

The enterprise is the result of 15-years of experience in developing technological solutions with a wide domain of expertise.

Turning research into Intelligent Solutions” IES is the principal partner responsible for customisation and localisation as required and manages Workpackage 3 – service demonstration.


ICCS

A research organisation associated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DECE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). ICCS has been established in 1989 by the Ministry of Education

The active research personnel of ICCS presently consists of 40 members of staff of DECE/NTUA, 20 additional senior researchers and 120 research students

NTUA is responsible for the evaluation metrics, certification, legulatory issues and best practice on ParkService and will manage WP 4 – Validation and Assessment.

Operating under the motto “Come out of your Shell” has three major objectives:

  1. Providing tailor-made accommodation for Parkinson patients
  2. Information centre for patients
  3. Public Understanding of Parkinson's Disease

By organising events, awarding research prizes, meetings with politicians, press campaigns and the like, the centre promotes public understanding and fosters awareness of patient needs

The role of Schneckenhaus in ParkService will be the running of the German pilot, bringing in the feedbacks from the patients and the results of the trials.


Grigioni

A non profit organization founded in 1993. It was founded to cover the lack of public research funds in Italy, where is it the only non profit organization that has the sole objective of identifying sponsors and collecting funds to support research projects to fight Parkinson’s disease.

One of its main projects is the support of a central data-base collecting all the main data related to patients attending the ICP Parkinson Centre in Milan i.e. about 250 variables including medical and family history, history of exposure to environmental toxins, UPDRS scores related to the clinical course of the disease, neuroimaging data, outcome of pharmacological tests, pharmacological and non pharmacological treatment.

The role of Fondazione Grigioni in ParkService will be the running of the Italian pilot, bringing in the feedbacks from the patients and the results of the trials.


Institute of Neurology

The Institute of Neurology, University College London, in association with the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery in London is one of Europe's leading centres for PD research. Institute staff have been associated with the PARREHA project and the committee that validated its results. . IoN and OCC currently have succeeded in securing funding from the UK PD Society for a clinical trial into the effect of visual cues (both real cues and one's supplied electronically) on the gait of PWP. They will represent the UK test site, where the benefits to PWPs from the clinicians viewpoint will be assessed, representing a first step in the evaluation of the Service.

The role of Institute of Neurology in ParkService will be the running of the UK pilot, adding a specific expertise in defining the clinical trial protocol.
