ParkLine

An overview of the ParkLine multimedia system.

ParkLine is a home-based device designed to help people with Parkinson’s Disease communicate with their doctors and one another.

It resembles a video recorder or DVD Player and is connected to a television set. The photo below shows a ParkLine as it might be set up in someone’s home.

ParkLine is controlled by a remote controller, similar to a TV remote. You may also use a normal keyboard and computer mouse if you prefer.

The main use of ParkLine is to allow people with Parkinson’s Disease to record videos of themselves peforming exercises or engaging in movements that show symtoms they wish to demonstrate. It also allows them to send those videos to their doctor, so that he can study the movements displayed.

This has the advantage that the person with Parkinson’s can choose when to record the video, and the doctor can choose when to watch them. Thus, the user can make the video when they are “Off” rather than when their appointment is scheduled.

ParkLine has many other features. Users can send messages to one another, and to their doctors. They can also use ParkLine as talk to each other, as though it were a telephone.

ParkLine also allows users to keep a diary of their symptoms, to record the changing effectivens of their medicines over the course of the day.
